Scream Poster Design
Project type
Graphic Design, illustration, 2-D
Date
2023
This is my graphic design poster inspired by the Scream horror movie series. I designed it to have comic book-style dialogue exchange between the characters on the phone, recreating the symbolic opening scenes from the films. The design incorporates silhouettes and does not show faces, with movie credits at the bottom in an official movie poster format. This deconstructs the legendary tension of the Scream franchise's phone calls into their most basic building blocks. Through the minimalist figures against the color-blocked, hard-edged background, I have attempted to trap the cat-and-mouse psychological game permeating these situations. The bowing of the dialogue from direct interrogation to the final threatening utterance mimics the growing menace typical of these situations. My writing removes unnecessary visual elements to convey the raw horror of the faceless caller, an unseen threat who could be lurking at any moment. It is a minimalist strategy that takes advantage of the psychological horror that has allowed Scream to continue as a franchise that plays with fan expectation about both the horror movie genre and our vulnerability in so-called safe spaces.
